How to buy a domain the right way

Most people start at Step 1. But that’s not actually the beginning.

Step 0: Know What You’re Building

Before you even think about domains, ask: Why are you doing this?
Is it a startup? A blog? A product?
You don’t need a perfect MVP, but you do need intent.
Don’t launch a website just to say you have one. Launch it because there’s something you want to share or build.

Motivation gets you going. But habits—daily progress—are what carry you forward.

Step 1: Finalize Your Domain Name

Keep it short, easy to remember, and ideally, something you won’t be embarrassed to say out loud.
The dot-com still matters, but don’t let perfection slow you down.

Step 2: Register the Domain

Use any major registrar—Namecheap, Google Domains (or its successor), GoDaddy.
It’s fast. It’s cheap. Just get it done.

Step 3: Choose a Hosting Provider

If you’re technical, you probably know where to go—AWS, Vercel, Netlify, etc.
If not, go with something simple like Bluehost or Squarespace.
The goal is to get live.

Step 4: Upload Your Site

This is where most people stall. Don’t overthink.
Even a single landing page is enough to start. Iterate later.
Ship now.

Most people get stuck trying to perfect steps 1–4. But the real risk isn’t imperfection—it’s never starting.

What’s your domain for? Start there. Then move fast.
